What Is Scale?
Scale is a coating or precipitate deposited on surfaces that are in contact with hard water. Water that contains carbonates of bicarbonates of calcium or magnesium are especially likely to cause scale. When water is heated or evaporation takes place, scale minerals precipitate layers of rock-like deposits on swimming pool tile, inside pipes, water heaters, equipment, and on pool decks.
Fine Micro Media Cleaning Process
A fine media is mixed with air pressure and blown at the “scale” at a certain pressure. The “media” pings the scale particles vibrating them and forcing them to release their hold.
The mixture of media and scale then falls to the pool floor. From there it is vacuumed up separately using a portable retrieval system. So none of the debris is put into your system.
Most tile can be cleaned this way, but occasionally there is a “softer ” glaze tile, which may not allow it to cleaned this way. The tech may reserve a right to not proceed with the work if the glaze tile is too soft.
Maxx-Strip / Kieserite Cleaning
Techs offer a “softer, more powder like media”, called Kieserite . This is used on “soft tile”, “glass tile”, or “soft stone” such as frail flagstone. Kieserite can also be requested to be used for any tile, however the cost of the material is three times more expensive. And with Kieserite it usually requires 30 % more per job, which adds about 30% cost to the job.
